We at Upstalsboom have decided to address you with a warm YOU from now on. Why do we want to do this?
The origins of our company lie in the heart of East Frisia. Today, we have hotel and holiday apartment locations in all coastal regions of northern Germany. Everywhere we speak Low German, also known to many as Plattdüsk or Plattdüüsk. In this charming Low German dialect, we don't differentiate between "Sie" and "Du" - we always greet each other respectfully and speak to each other in a very personal way - using DU.
We would now like to include you as our guests in this cordial interaction. We would like to continue to show you our hospitality in the future with a personal and affectionate form of address.
In written and spoken texts, gender changes and markers are being used more and more frequently and in a wide variety of ways.
In our view, however, extensive gendering impairs the reading flow and comprehensibility of many texts. Above all, gendered texts are not digitally accessible and we will continue to work on maximising the accessibility of our websites in the future.
For these reasons, we currently refrain from using gender-specific differentiation and use the generic masculine - as well as the gerundive or more inclusive formulations, provided they are easy to read. All personal designations apply equally to all genders. In the Upstalsboom Group, we are aware of the diversity of people. In the course of the current debate on gender issues, it is important to us that we treat each other with respect and consideration in our daily interactions, regardless of the spoken or written word.
